A rushlight was a peeled reed dipped in fat and burned by people who could not afford candles. Michael Nordstrand builds one out of beeswax and honeyed spring flowers: bay leaf, hops and petitgrain opening onto linden, mimosa and honeysuckle, all of it kept low and green like a hedgerow before sunrise.
